History

The Avenue Theatre has been opened since the 40s, it has undergone many renovations and improvements throughout its many years as a beloved staple in downtown West Plains Missouri.

Arts on the Avenue is a non-profit, community-based organization that is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the historic Avenue Theatre.
The Avenue has been used for many things over the years including both community and private events and continues to play a significant role as a community arts and culture center to West Plains and surrounding areas.

Our Mission at Arts on the Avenue is to engage, inspire, entertain and challenge audiences with theatrical productions that range from the classics to new works.
To educate and support the next generation of theatre artists and directors; we provide arts education programs that promote life-long learning to a diverse community; and we celebrate the essential power of the theatre to illuminate our common humanity.
Vision:
Our Vision at Arts On the Avenue is to continue to improve and support the creation of art and the cultivation of artists that challenges boundaries.
To rebuild a once thriving arts community, while fostering an inclusive culture that inspires the artists of the future for generations.
Art on the Avenue Core Values:
* Artistic excellence: We will always do our best to pursue the highest possible theatrical quality so we can engage our audience intellectually and emotionally.
* Diversity: We will strive to choose to produce a diverse atmosphere where everyone feels welcome•
* We are a safe space where artists can create regardless of gender, race, ability, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, and financial access.
* Antiracism: We actively seek to provide opportunities for all theater artists, recognizing the need to not only eliminate racial barriers to participation but also to make amends for historical injustice.
* Respect: We always show the utmost respect for our collaborators and our audience, and we refuse to allow harassment, disparagement, or objectification in connection with our productions or operations.
* Communication – We believe in full transparency and authentic communication to create a fearless environment within the ensemble to better communicate beyond the ensemble.
* Trust – The foundation of trust is having confidence in knowing we all share the same vision, goals and values. Trust and mutual respect lead to success.

At Arts on the Avenue we see artistic value at every step along a continuum that includes entertainment, education, and social change.
